June 24th, 2016

This week has been pretty quiet. It has turned out that Mom has had to spend most of the week taking care of Graham, so we haven’t gotten to go anywhere interesting. He doesn’t mind going for car rides, but he really wants to go home after one or two places.
But one of the places Mom, Graham, and Grandma went was to the thrift store. Mom found one of our friends from before! Shirley is back! Hurrah!

My sister, Chloe, and her friends are at my Mom’s sister’s house, but we’re going to get them soon so they can reunite!
I hope Mom and I get to do something this weekend! Talk to you all later!

Good afternoon, everybody! How are you? Things around here have been pretty quiet! Mom has been working a lot this week. It was four days in a row—and that usually doesn’t happen. But now she’s on VACATION! Woot!

We’ve had a new friend move in. This is Hank. He is an octopus! (Mom says that he’s actually a septopus, because he only has seven arms.) He looks kind of cranky, but he seems to be a nice guy.

Mom and Caleb recently went to this exhibit. It was at the Paine Art Museum. There was a large room with about twenty or thirty prints. They were prints from Audubon’s time. They were very pretty. Mom especially liked the turkey one. Caleb liked the one with the ruby-throated hummingbird. In another room, there was a TV playing a PBS documentary about Audubon and his life. There was some modern reproductions of the prints there, including the pink flamingo. Mom and her friend wandered around the inside of the museum.
They walked around the outside of the garden when they were walking back to the car. The museum has a garden around it. There was a pond. Mom likes ponds because they sometimes hold koi. This one was empty, but it was still very pretty!

There was a hedge nearby that was covered in roses. It was very pink and very pretty.

Since the flowers weren’t for picking, Mom took a picture of one instead!

We’ve also been spending a lot of time with Graham. He likes to lie on the ground and kick and talk. Oliver is very fond of Graham, so we spend a lot of time on the ground with him too!

June 10th, 2016

Good afternoon, everybody! How are things with you? Everything’s been pretty quiet around my house, which Mom and I think is a good thing.
We’ve been spending a lot of time watching Graham. When Mom’s not at work, and Graham is at our house, it’s Mom’s job to take care of him. She has drafted me as baby guard. I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be guarding against, but it seems to make her happy. It also gets us time to sit outside, so I don’t complain!

Oliver helps me guard Graham too. He doesn’t like it when the baby cries.

He also sleeps a lot, as you can see here! Otherwise, things have been pretty boring around here. The weather has been pretty nice, although it is supposed to be very warm this weekend. Mom took this picture after she was done helping gardening a few days ago.

Have any of you seen the new Alice in Wonderland movie? Mom and I want to see it. We enjoyed the first one. We read some bad reviews, and someone we know didn’t like it. But we wanted other people’s opinions!
Mom bought a new plush friend from work a few days ago. She is a purple unicorn. She hasn’t told us her name yet, but we will talk to her about it and take her picture for next week. I hope you’re all having a good day!

Summer has struck Wisconsin! Neither Mom nor I are big fans of hot weather! I love air conditioning! I like summer because all the plants grow, but I don’t like the really hot weather, nor the humidity. We spend a lot of time sitting on our front porch, since it’s all nice and shaded! This is what we were looking at when I wrote this up! Hurrah for bright, blue skies!

So I decided that we were going to have a little experiment. Mom and I have been learning Dutch for a few years. All we do is work on the internet and read articles. But what good is all that unless we try to communicate! Since we’re not going to meet any people who speak Dutch any time soon, I figure this is a good place! Mom is still moderately confused about word order, so bear with us!
What we were trying to say—My mom and I have decided to try our Dutch writing skills on my blog. We have learned Dutch for several years. We use the internet and websites such as Duolingo and Memrise. We follow people on Facebook and Twitter who write things about the Netherlands and the Dutch language. While we write this, Mom has decided that she reads a lot better than she writes! This is hard! Now we are going to learn more!
Mom has spent about three times as long trying to proofread it, and we’re pretty sure that it’s still wrong. I told Mom that making mistakes is part of learning. She just sighed! Some people’s Moms these days!
Bonus picture of Oliver!

I hope you’re all having a good day! Learning more than one language didn’t start in school didn’t start until Mom was in middle school (11 to 12 years old), but I know that it starts much earlier now. Do any of you study any other languages? I know that a lot of my blog friends are bilingual!  When did you start learning it in school? Do any of you do it just for fun? Do you have any new resources?
